I'm Minda Greenberg
& I love GIS!
GIS is most commonly used as the acryonym for Geographic Information Systems. However, my mother says it stands for "Greenberg is stupendous!" I've always been a curious person and genuinely interested in learning about my surroundings whether it's the etymology of the road I'm traveling on, the housing demographics of a neighborhood I'm visiting, or the wildlife inhabiting the area I'm hiking through. The beauty of GIS is that it can provide that information and more in many different ways. I started my college career as a declared Journalism major but I soon discovered my true passion lied within the discipline of Geography. I had always pondered what caused wind but no one was ever able to answer my question. That was until my sophomore year as an undergrad at California State University, Northridge. The moment happened one day in my Physical Geography 101 class, the lesson for the day was air pressure. Before the 50 minute class ended, I had decided I was going to change my major to Geography. Dead set on making my decision a reality, I went straight away to file the paperwork after completing my 2006 spring semester finals. I successfully switched my major from Journalism to Geography and four years later I graduated with a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in that discipline. Since graduating in the spring of 2010 I have dedicated my time to continued education via community college programs, graduate school work, and online courses as well as gaining professional work experience in a variety of different industries that has allowed me to grow as an individual and as a Geographer. My current professional status is a GIS Technician / Analyst. Most recently I completed a 15 month contract for Apple Maps in San Jose, CA. In May I returned to Los Angeles, CA and am seeking employment opportunities to further enhance my skills and apply my expertise to the next exciting project. Let me show you GIS! |
